When your world is washed away

2020 was traumatic.

For some, it may seem a bit over the top to use the language of trauma, but when we look back at similar events of the past we’d recognise that they had a long-term effect on the people who went through them.

When we live under the kind of pressures we have this year our bodies respond with anxiety, sadness, and fatigue, along with other things and so we need to process what we have been through both for our physical, mental, and spiritual health.

And Psalm 46 is an incredible prayer for this season, that helps us describe what we’ve been through and bring it to Jesus, and then hear his voice for ourselves wherever we find ourselves today.

We are glad you've come to check this out, listen to the introduction to help understand why we do this and how you can best make use of your time praying through Psalm 46 and being led on a journey to help you process and turn your experience of 2020 into a prayer.

Psalm 46
Guided Devotion
2020 has been incredibly challenging, but we’ve made it! Miles encouraged us recently to be asking God, "what is next?" We need 20/20 vision, not 2020 vision, as we step into 2021!

One of the ways you can do this is to spend some time looking back and asking Jesus to speak to you about what we have just experienced - to take some time and reflect on the losses and also the blessings of last year.

Psalm 46 is an incredible prayer to help us do that, it helps us describe what we’ve been through, bring it to God, and then hear his voice wherever we find ourselves today.

And so we’ve put together a guided five-part devotion, that you can listen to that has readings, music, and reflections on this Psalm.

We are glad you've come to check this out, listen to the introduction to help understand why we do this and how you can best make use of your time praying through Psalm 46 and being led on a journey to help you process and turn your experience of 2020 into a prayer.

Psalm 46
God is our refuge and strength
an ever-present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea. Though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God. The holy place where the most high dwells. God is within her, she will not fall. God will help her at the break of day. Nations are in uproar, Kingdoms fall. He lifts his voice, The earth melts. The Lord Almighty is with us; The God of Jacob is our fortress.

Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations he has brought upon the earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear, he burns the shields with fire.

He says: Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.

The Lord Almighty is with us. The God of Jacob is our fortress.

Introduction
A guided devotion through Psalm 46
How to use this guided devotion:

There are five sections to this devotion, each one looks at a different part of Psalm 46, and has:

• A full reading of the Psalm,

• Short devotion finishing with some prayer questions

• A sung version of Psalm 46

You can do it all in one go, or spread it out over a week, and it can be used by yourself though it can be really helpful to share what you learn with a friend as a way of processing it.
