THANK
YOU

Over the past seven years, God has exceeded our expectations in every possible way. As we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic and make plans to rebuild post-pandemic, we are thankful for God’s faithfulness, provision, and generosity. It has been an absolute privilege to be part of such a vibrant community. Thank you for the ways you give, and serve, and pray -- HTBB would not be the same without the love and sacrifice of people like you!

We have compiled this report to provide some visibility into the impact that you are having as a partner of the vision and mission of HTBB church. As you browse this report, we hope that you are inspired and reminded of the many lives around the world that have been impacted because of your generosity, prayers, and support for HTBB.

Perhaps the most vulnerable and adversely affected during the pandemic have been our children. And so we are thankful for our CHTBB leaders and volunteers who have continued to pastor our children and their families throughout this time.

Raven & Vida Sockanathan

It all started in February 2016, when my wife, Vida, told me that we would be attending the Marriage Course at Holy Trinity Bukit Bintang. I had never heard of HTBB but since she was quite adamant, I thought that perhaps we should attend. I was quite taken aback as to how well the Marriage Course was organised complete with candle lit tables and delicious food. The course itself was equally impressive, moderated by Karen & Patrick Chew and hosted via video by Nicky and Sila Lee whom we had the good fortune to meet some time later. The Marriage Course was a great help to us in so many ways.

I thought to myself that if the Marriage Course was any reflection of how the church was run, we should give it a go and attend as a family. Vida enthusiastically agreed and off we all went to HTBB one fine Sunday in April 2016. To cut a long story short, we fell in love with HTBB and have been attending ever since. HTBB Youth was a real bonus and we felt that all of us as a family well & truly belonged. I joined Alpha in April 2016 for the first time and never looked back. Vida also attended soon after. I later assisted on Alpha and eventually led two Alpha groups. The first Alpha group I joined transformed into a Connect Group which I led for 3 years with Betty Lee. We all remain good friends till today. Vida and I also led the Parenting Teenagers Course from our home the following year.

In August 2016, St Paul’s Theological College (“SPTC”) Malaysia was launched and I took the leap and enrolled in SPTC at the young age of 54. I had no idea what to expect but I felt a strong calling to do so. We were the inaugural cohort and it was such an amazing academic and spiritual learning experience for all of us. James Harding and team were incredible! I graduated in August 2019 with a BA in Theology. It was one of the proudest moments of my life.

RESTORED LIVES

Restored Lives is a course for those who are separated, those who are currently going through a divorce, or those who are already divorced. Originally launched at Holy Trinity Brompton, the team at HTBB recently piloted the Restored Lives course at our church. We have seen lives transformed by giving people the skills and tools to take simple steps to overcome hurt, and ultimately aim to help people know that a restored life is possible. One such story from a participant can be found below.

“Restored Lives helped me to realise I need to take ownership of my choices in the past, forgive myself and my ex-husband in order to move on in life.”

I grew up with a mother who struggled with depression after her failed marriage. She became abusive and all I wanted was to leave the home I grew up in and developed a deep longing to have a family of my own.

I met my ex-husband and we got married, but most of our time together was spent arguing. My ex-husband developed an addiction to video games and I became so depressed with the relationship that I decided to move on. It was difficult to rebuild my self-esteem after the divorce. I was haunted daily with a sense of failure, anger, and frustration towards the helplessness of the situation.

I attended Restored Lives 10 years after my divorce. Restored Lives helped me to realise I need to take ownership of my choices in the past, forgive myself and my ex-husband in order to move on in life. Knowing that God loves me and the person who wronged me in the past, helped me to let go of the resentment I had.

Today, I am happy and contented and I look towards God for help daily. I currently live with my daughters, I have gained trust from my bosses at work, and I am able to provide for my family which is a dream come true. God made a way when I didn’t see a way. For this, I have come a very long way.

WEE LIANG

I came to know about the foodbank through Yu Li. I don’t keep a full time job, so Yu Li recommended that I fill up my time and he pointed me to the HTBB Foodbank. I started by contacting Michael and we met up on one of the Wednesday delivery days. I went out with Steven on the deliveries to the foodbank families. Steven explained to me about the hopes and purpose of the foodbank, which was to understand the difficulties of the refugees and find ways of giving them a sustainable lifestyle. Mainly by food distribution and education. I really liked the idea.

In the process of distribution, I realised that an additional vehicle would increase efficiency and at the same time, promote growth. I never knew there were so many refugees in our community so I got a truck. We also managed to find more food sources and we receive quite a lot of food from our partnership with The Lost Food Project. These are foods that are about to expire, it is such a good way to eliminate waste and increase sustainability.

As for my hopes for the foodbank, it would be somewhat wild! Dreams and hopes in my opinion, should always be big! I hope that one day, we could offer these refugees an even better deal and share in the community with us.
